Turtles can live up to 200 years. They feed mainly on plants, but also on snails, earthworms and insects. The special thing about the turtles is their shell. When scared and sensing danger, they duck their head and legs very quickly. A baby turtle is born with a shell, but it is much lighter and not as hard. When the females expect offspring, they lay eggs and bury them under the soil from which they are incubated.
